2010 MSBA Referenda Survey Shows 75 Districts Considering Levy Referenda MSBA's 2010 Referenda survey shows 75 districts in Minnesota will be going for an operating levy request in November. Three other districts had levy referendums earlier this year. The 75 districts for 2010 would make this the highest number since 2007, when 101 districts requested levy referenda.

Before Your Board Webinars to Start September 13 MSBA's new Before Your Board webinars begin 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13th with the program, "When Board Meetings Go Sideways." The webinar will be available throughout the months of September and October for districts wanting to use the program for board work sessions or discussions for their own board meetings. This webinar series is designed for the entire board to watch and discuss at their board meeting or a later work session. The Sept. 13 program looks at issues like board ethics, behavior, training new members and Robert's Rules. Get your board registered today in our Member's Area.

MSBA to Offer FREE BoardBook Webinars to Show How You Can Do Paperless Meetings Because of high demand, MSBA will offer another round of free BoardBook webinars to show school districts how they can have paperless meetings and save time and money on agenda packet preparation. The free webinars will be:- 11 a.m. to Noon Monday, October 25
- 11 a.m. to Noon Tuesday, October 26
- Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 27
- Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, October 28

MSBA Launching Superintendent Search Service MSBA’s Board of Directors recently voted to begin offering a full-service Superintendent Search Service effective fall 2010. Two search service packages, a “Basic Search” and an “Advanced Search,” will be offered, and members will have the option to purchase additional services to meet the unique search-related needs of their school districts. MSBA Insurance Trust (MSBAIT) MSBA established the MSBA Insurance Trust (MSBAIT) in 1972. MSBAIT’s purpose is “to provide for its members and their employees and officials various forms of insurance, including any forms of permitted group insurance, for the benefit of school districts which are members of the MSBA and to effectuate cost savings in the procurement and administration of such insurance programs.”
With respect to property/casualty and workers’ compensation insurance products and services, MSBAIT currently endorses Riverport Insurance Company for MSBA members. MSBAIT also endorses National Insurance Services as the provider of group term life and group long-term disability insurance products and services for MSBA members. NEW 2010 School Board Election Timelines Now Available Because of a new law that will move the primary from September to August, election timelines for all districts will change. MSBA, working with the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office, has posted new timelines for school district election officials.
