New General Election Resolution for November 2008 Because of changes in the primary law and changes from paper ballots to optical scan ballots, MSBA has updated its General Election Resolution for boards.
To download a copy, click here.New Primary Election Rules and Resolutions New legislation was signed into law May 12 that gives school boards an option on whether to hold a primary election.
If your board wanted to be subject to the primary election system in 2008, the board should have passed the Resolution Establishing a School District Primary Election System by June 1. Those districts that did not pass the resolution by June 1 will not have a primary in 2008.
For the 2008 Primary Election System Resolution, click here
If your board does NOT want to be subject to the primary election system, do not pass the resolution. All candidates who file will be on the general election ballot.
If your board has already set filing dates for July 1-15 AND does not want to be subject to the primary election system, the board must revoke the filing date resolution before the July 1 filing period begins.
For those districts not in the primary election system that want to pass a resolution with the corrected, later filing dates, click here for the Filing Date Resolution For Districts that are Not Part of the Primary System. Your new filing dates will be Aug. 26-Sept. 9. NOTE: The filing date resolution is OPTIONAL. This resolution is only offered as a reminder to districts that the filing dates MUST be published and posted.
