MSBA CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD WORKSHOP

The MSBA Charter School Board Member Workshop offers all three state-required training components for charter school board members: Board's Role and Responsibilities, Financial Matters, and Employment Matters.

  • Tuition: $195 for MSBA Charter Associates ($215 for walk-ins) | $260 for non-MSBA Charter Associates ($280 for walk-ins)

MSBA Event Cancellation Policy

Cancellation by Charter Workshop Participants:

(1) If a pre-registered participant cancels any time prior to the date registration closes, MSBA will fully refund the registration fee.

(2) If a pre-registered participant cancels between the date registration closes until the time the MSBA-sponsored event/activity begins, he/she will be charged an administration fee ($85 for MSBA Charter Associates and $105 for non-MSBA Charter Associates).

(3) Once an event/activity begins, all registrants are responsible for the full registration fee.


Additional learning opportunities

MSBA Officers' Workshops

The Officers' Workshop is focused on board officers’ responsibilities and basics/fundamentals of laws affecting school boards. Elected board officers, superintendents and staff who support the board are encouraged to attend.

Note: This is not a required training, nor does it provide credit toward any training mandated for charter school board members.

SCHEDULE: This workshop will return in February 2020.

BUILDING A HIGH-PERFORMANCE SCHOOL BOARD TEAM: PHASE III WORKSHOP

Building a High-Performance School Board Team: Phase III focuses on methods of decision-making, stages of board development, navigating board dynamics, small-group interactions with school board video scenarios, and the MSBA School Board Self-Evaluation.

Note: This is not a required training, nor does it provide credit toward any training mandated for charter school board members.

REGISTRATION: This workshop will return in September 2019.

REPRESENTING YOUR COMMUNITY THROUGH POLICY AND ENGAGEMENT: PHASE IV WORKSHOP

Representing Your Community Through Policy and Engagement: Phase IV focuses on in-depth discussions and examples of a board member’s role as a policymaker and interactive small-group sessions that walk through an actual community engagement activity. Also, this workshop will have a segment on dealing with the media and public forums.

Note: This is not a required training, nor does it provide credit toward any training mandated for charter school board members.
